Woodstock Locks Change
The first question you ask yourself once you’ve moved into your new home shouldn’t be where’s the kettle? but how many other people have keys to your new home?
This is a question many of us may take for granted and the truth is that unless you have the locks on your new home changed as soon as you move in, you may never know exactly how many others have copies of the keys.
A property is one of the biggest investments a person may undertake in their lifetime and paying the mortgage each month and even contents insurance may be redundant if you do not take fundamental steps towards ensuring the basic security of your home.
The truth is that if the locks on your property have not been changed in years there is the potential for there to be more copies of keys than just the ones in your possession. It may be that the former tenants had given a set to a family friend or even the next door neighbour, perhaps the estate agent has a set or even a variety of workmen and cleaners too. The list may be endless and while a few sets of keys may be lost, never to be found again, it doesn’t mean that changing locks shouldn’t be your first priority.
Unfortunately, during times of recession there is usually a corresponding rise in the rate of burglaries due to opportunists coming across careless gaps left in home security plans.
Many security firms will offer a free security check to review your property and let you know of any potential areas of weakness. If you have a new property, changing locks will almost certainly be a first step of advice. It can be done very quickly and at very reasonable prices. Most homes will have at least three external door locks and flats will have two. Even if you had one existing lock on each external door changed, you would greatly reduce the security risk to your home.
The security of our family, our homes and our possessions should be a number one priority when our families and belongings are involved and is a valuable home security tip to bear in mind the next time you move home.
